Miri

Miri was once a sleepy fishing village before the discovery of oil changed the landscape of this coastal town into the booming center stage for the petroleum industry in Malaysia that it is today. The city’s history is deeply rooted in oil and gas production, as Miri is the birthplace of the Malaysian petroleum industry. One of the most notable landmarks of Miri is the ‘Grand Old Lady’, which is the first oil well discovered in Miri in 1910.

Climate

Weather in Miri can be somewhat warm, especially during the dry season from April to September. During the northeast monsoon season from October to March, visitors can expect rain showers and a cooler temperature during these months. The annual rainfall for Miri is recorded at around 2500 to 3800 millimetres, with temperatures averaging between 23 °C to 32 °C.
