“Sarawak Tourism Board continues the collaboration with Grab Academy for second cohort of Sarawak Ambassadors Programme on e-learning for e-hailing driver”
KUCHING, 12 April 2021 – Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) in collaboration with Grab Malaysia (GRAB) today certified 1,000 Grab drivers for the ‘Sarawak Ambassadors Programme on e-learning for e-hailing drivers’ with the objective of making them as Sarawak Tourism Ambassadors.The Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Sarawak, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who presented the certificates to Grab drivers said, Sarawak Tourism has succeeded its goal of creating a Sarawak ambassadors’ community with a total of 1,000 Grab drivers in cohort 1, and hoping that all e-hailing drivers are equipped with the knowledge to share to visitors once the border is open. “I believe the continuation of Sarawak Ambassadors Programme for e-haling drivers, to make it successful, we need major support from the industry and tourism players. This programme which is exclusively for e-hailing drivers, aims to equip them with extra knowledge on tourism and Sarawak’s offerings to enable them to become Sarawak Ambassadors,” said Datuk Abdul Karim.
Meanwhile, according to STB CEO, Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, ‘this initiative with Grab Academy is part of the Ministry and STB’s continuous effort to strengthen our foundation and the ecosystem to ‘weather the storm’, to be ready and equipped once the storm passes. In this regard, we have extended this ambassador concept among Grab drivers with the hope of enriching their knowledge of Sarawak as a tourism destination and hence becoming Sarawak Ambassadors to their clients.’ “STB will continue to place strong emphasis on enhancing visitors’ experience, as part of experiential tourism. With the certification of 1,000 Grab drivers for Sarawak Ambassadors Programme on e-learning for e-hailing drivers today, we will continue this meaningful programme and position Sarawak as one of traveller’s destination of choice,’ she added. Sarawak Ambassadors Programme on E-learning for E-hailing Drivers, is a joint collaboration with Grab Malaysia, targeting the first 1,000 drivers out of 5,000 drivers in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri. The cohort two had started immediately after STB attained the first 1000.
The modules, which are available in English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin, will cover information about Sarawak, culture and heritage as well as the tourist destinations in all regions ie Southern, Central and Northern of Sarawak.Grab drivers involved will have access to Grab Malaysia’s Axonify or its e-learning platform under the Grab Academy to provide this online learning. The modules for the e-learning are facilitated by Akademi Hospitaliti & Pelancongan Saujana Sdn. Bhd. or SATT College to cover the Southern, Central and the Northern regions of Sarawak.
