Kuching, March 24, 2012 – The Das Goldene Stadttor (Golden City Gate) Awards (Gold Prize) which was won by Sarawak in the Print Campaign Category, at ITB Berlin travel show, was this morning presented to the Chief Minister YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. The award was handed over to Pehin Sri by the Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg in a ceremony at his office.
The Das Goldene Stadttor (Golden City Gate) international film and media competition is held as part of the annual International Tourism Fair in Berlin and is considered to be one of the “Oscars” of the international travel and tourism industry. This is a prestigious award that honours the best creative of the global tourism industry every year and Sarawak Tourism’s ‘Where Adventure Lives’ were judged by an international jury as the best in the Print Campaign Category.
The print campaign was conceptualised and created by Integrated Strategic Communications, the creative agency of the Sarawak Tourism Board as part of the Board’s reimaging of the destination.
YAB Pehin Sri commended the Sarawak Tourism Board for its efforts to promote the state particularly as an eco tourism destination and to attract travelers from its target markets to experience adventure in Sarawak. He urged the Board not to be complacent but to continue to increase arrivals to the State. He was happy to note that Sarawak received a total of 3.80 million tourists visiting the state up to December 2011 an impressive 16% increase in arrivals compared to the same period in the previous year. The trend has continued this year with a 14% increase up to February with foreign arrivals increasing at an impressive 21%.
