Kuching, 30 August 2012 – Going for a leisurely cruise during the holidays has become more popular in recent years, with a number of operators such as MV Orion II, offering great deals on cruises to several stunning destinations including Sarawak.
MV Orion II, the cruise ship that belongs to Orion Expedition Cruises, Australia has once again anchored in Kuching this morning. The arrival at 6:30am at Sim Kheng Hong Port near Pending has made a total number of cruise vessels to 11 times so far this year. This is the 7th arrival for MV Orion II into Kuching with a series of expedition cruises around South East Asia.
Among its famous expedition cruises are “Borneo-Rajahs - Riches & Rainforests”, while the cruise that sailed in this morning is called “Camp Leakey – Faces in the Forest” departing Singapore and sailing all the way to Anambas Archipelago, Natuna Archipelago, famous Bako National Park in Kuching, Tanjung Puting (Camp Leakey) and ending in Bali, Indonesia. The cruise takes a total of 10 nights.
MV Orion II is one of the smallest luxury cruises operated by this liner and the passengers are offered a visit to a different location every day and whilst here they will be exploring the various destinations in Sarawak that are truly exciting, including the Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre.
“Sarawak Tourism Board is encouraging all cruises to make Kuching as part of their port of call. MV Orion II is a smaller cruise and due to its small size, it can berth close to shore, which is great” says Mr Maurice Balang, Sarawak Tourism Board’s Regional Marketing Manager at the arrival this morning.
MV ORION II arrived with 141 passengers on board with Australian tourists being the largest number and the rest from Romania, Italy, USA, Germany, UK, New Zealand and Switzerland. Other than Semenggoh Orang Utan and Bako National Park, passengers are scheduled to visit key spots in Kuching such as Sarawak Cultural Village and a tour around the City.
On arrival, passengers were given a traditional welcome with traditional dance and a welcome garland courtesy of Sarawak Tourism Board.
