LONDON, Tuesday – The Iban master weavers from Kapit, Sarawak are among others who will demonstrate their textile weaving at World Eco-Fiber and Textile (WEFT) Art held in London, UK.
Mr Bangie Embol and Mdm Nancy Ngali from Rumah Garie longhouse, Sungai Kain, Ulu Kapit are mong others who will demonstrate their textile weaving. Mr Michael Lim, renowned fine batik artist from Kuching will also exhibit his works.
The exhibition and symposium takes place at the School of Oriental & African Studies London commencing from 18 January for a 2 month period and ending on the 23 March 2013.
Participants from 35 countries, including Japan, the Philippines, USA, Australia, Thailand, India, Venezuela, Pakistan, Laos, Bangladesh, China, Taiwan, Turkey, Indonesia and Malaysia, will be featured at the event.
Sarawak Tourism Board has also arranged for a Exquisite British Fashion Designer Ms. Anna Valentine to come along and to discuss various weaving techniques with Sarawakian artists together with Mr Edric Ong the curator. Anna dressed Royals from Camilla Parker-Bowles Duchess of Cornwall to Serena Linley for their weddings. Anna was very interested in the exhibits and will hopefully use them for one of her fashion shows.
