Samarahan

Kota Samarahan was once known to the locals of Sarawak as a small coastal village before its transformation into a vibrant town equipped with modern amenities and its own administrative headquarters of the Samarahan Division. Recent developments over the years has changed the landscape of the quiet town following the completion of the 25-kilometre road linking Kota Samarahan to Kuching. Kota Samarahan is also home to two full-fledged universities, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Its academic role was further enhanced in 1999 with the siting of Tun Abdul Razak Teachers’ College, the 1st “smart” college of its kind in Malaysia. Other siginificant developments are the Institut Latihan Perindustrian Kota Samarahan and Dato’ Traoh International School. Kota Samarahan also hosts the Sarawak General Hospital Heart Centre, serving the medical needs of residents in both Kuching and Kota Samarahan.

Climate

Similar to Kuching, the weather in Kota Samarahan is temperate, and there is significant rainfall throughout the year. The annual temperature ranges between 23 °C to 32 °C, and Kota Samarahan experiences the North-East Monsoon months from November to February, while the dry season for typically runs from June till August.
